Compared to last week, prices and movement remained steady. With warmer temperatures, abundant sunshine, and windy conditions, fields have dried sufficiently, allowing hay harvest activities to progress across much of the state. Many producers are in the midst of second cutting alfalfa, while brome harvest is underway in several areas. Hay season is now in full swing as favorable weather has supported fieldwork. According to the US Drought Monitor for the week of July 2nd, in the High Plains, Like other areas in the central and eastern U.S., a patchwork quilt of showers provided drought relief in some areas. Some of the heaviest rain, occasionally accompanied by thunderstorm-driven high winds and large hail, fell in portions of all six states in the region. In Kansas, the categorical percent area of abnormally dry conditions (D0) decreased to 15%, Moderate drought (D1) decreased to 19%, severe drought (D2) decreased to 8%, there was no extreme drought (D3) or exceptional drought (D4) recorded with 57% of the state experiencing no drought. Prices below reflect the average price. There could be prices higher and lower prices than those published.
