Full Report KSFGC Winter Forage Conference
Compared to the last report demand remains strong and prices were mostly steady, with a definite undertone of strength to the market. Lots of corn stalks have been baled which is being ground with the alfalfa to help offset higher costs and to extend alfalfa stores. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor for November 29th, no changes were made on the map. For the week, average temperatures were well above normal across the Northern Plains with average temperatures ranging from 2 to 10+ deg F above normal. According to NOAA, the Great Plains Region saw its 9th warmest and 8th driest September-October on record. Currently abnormally dry conditions (D0) remained near 14%, moderate drought (D1) remained near 17.5%, severe drought (D2) remained near 13%, extreme drought (D3) remained near 21%, and exceptional drought (D4) remained near 35%.
