
As winter soon begins, many cow-calf producers will shift cows from the pasture to feeding stored bales. Knowing how much hay cattle need is based on several factors, but the most important factor is the quality of hay. Knowing forage quality will go a long way in determining what is needed before pasture growth, it is adequate to begin grazing next spring. High-quality forages contain large concentrations of nutrients and are easier to meet the nutritional needs of the cow.
