KSU-HAYS EXPERIMENT STATION – Cropping system diversification and the utilization of cover crops will be the focus of this field day and tour. Kansas State University researchers will discuss ongoing research efforts at HB Ranch evaluating cover crop management options in dryland wheat-based production system. Cover crop benefits include improved soil quality, nutrient cycling, weed and pest suppression, and reduced wind erosion. And the use of cover crops for forage and grazing can help offset cover crop costs, potential losses in revenue associated with decreases in wheat yield, and increase overall farm profitability.
