Compared to the last report demand remains good, prices remained mostly steady, trade activity was slow. The western half of the state remains in drought although areas surrounding western Kansas have all received some form of precipitation in the last several weeks. As the drought lingers, so do concerns for this year’s alfalfa crop. For areas east folks are busy in the field preparing ground and applying fertilizer, which has thankfully come down in price this year. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor for February 28th abnormal dryness and moderate to exceptional drought contracted in the northeastern region of the state. However, western Kansas and parts of southeast Colorado have missed out on the winter precipitation. The categorical percent area for Abnormally dry conditions (D0) remained near 12%, moderate drought (D1) decreased to near 7%, severe drought (D2) decreased to 13%, extreme drought (D3) decreased to near 17%, and exceptional drought (D4) remained near 35%. ** Prices below reflect the average price. There could be prices higher and lower than those published. FULL REPORT
