Great Plains landowners are at a war with woody species as a shift in strategy is long overdue. Instead of chasing the invasion, WLFW is prioritizing prevention care for the best remaining intact grasslands in order to keep them productive and expand them. WLFW has looked at many approaches and has started using “Defend the Core” tactics. This prevents seeds from becoming trees by using prescribed fire and eliminating seedlings with targeted herbicide use.
