KSU Agronomy eUpdate: Herbicides for damaged brome hayfields

The fall of 2021 was a hard year for brome growers. In many of the late-harvested fields when plants were starting to regrow, the armyworms were everywhere in eastern Kansas. Some fields were sprayed with insecticides while the brome was using its reserves to grow new leaves and the worms were voraciously eating. This has resulted in some of these fields dying and needing to be replanted however, some fields are significantly damaged and growers will need to decide their next course of action.
