Flint Hills Prescribed Fire Update

The most recent Flint Hills Prescribed Fire Update can be found here. According to KDHE, prescribed fires have been implemented on 2.2 million acres of Flint Hills rangeland (March 15 to April 14, 2019). Preliminary air quality data indicates that Kansas has had one ozone exceedance of the NAAQS daily 8-hour average maximum of 70 ppb, with a reading of 76 ppb in Chanute, Kansas on April 8, 2019.

As the prescribed fire season comes to a close, please remember to check the smoke modeling decision-tools available at www.ksfire.org, which can help estimate the impact that smoke from a prescribed burn might have on downwind communities.
