About 80 alfalfa producers and industry stakeholders attended the Summer Field Day and Crop Insurance Discussion south of Larned, KS. Alfalfa crop insurance language was added to 2014 Farm Bill and RMA has contracted with Agralytica Consulting to study the issue. The listening session in Larned was one of four held nationally to gather information prior to beginning its work on the development of a new alfalfa insurance product.
“The Kansas Forage and Grassland Council Field Day provided the perfect opportunity to hold one of the four listening sessions RMA requires,” said Beth Nelson, NAFA President. “It’s so important to hear directly from producers about what works and, maybe more importantly, what doesn’t work when it comes to crop insurance programs. As one of NAFA’s newest affiliates, we are grateful to the Kansas Forage and Grassland Council for its willingness to partner with us in hosting this important event.”
Field Day presenters included Jerry Gano, WL Alfalfa; Dan Undersander, University of Wisconsin; Peter Reisen, Forage Genetics International; Don Miller Alforex Seeds; and Doo-Hong Min, Kansas State University.
The Kansas Forage and Grassland Council’s 2014 Annual Conference will be held December 9th in Manhattan, KS.
