Kansas Gov. Lara Kelly signed an executive order yesterday to facilitate the immediate delivery of large quantities of hay, feed, fencing materials and other relief supplies to areas affected by wildfires. The executive order waives certain motor carrier regulations on truck drivers directly participating in relief efforts.
Specifically, it allows loads of hay up to 12’ wide and 14’ 6” tall and waives permit fees. Although the fees temporarily have been waived, drivers still must obtain the requisite over-dimension permits required by the Kansas Department of Transportation. To obtain a permit, click here.
Gov. Kelly also issued a verbal state of disaster declaration February 15 in response to the threat of wildfires, which waives certain hours-of-service requirements for drivers who are providing direct assistance to those impacted. That waiver expires 14 days from the date of the verbal declaration, meaning this order will last through March 1.
