This past week, demand was light, trade was moderate, and prices were steady, on limited test as producers have been busy in the fields with wheat harvest, hay harvest and the planting of milo. According to producer reports, grinders should not have trouble finding grinding hay this year. Producers stated that much of the alfalfa will be grinding quality, due to all the rain Kansas has had. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor for the week of July 1st, very heavy rain fell across parts of southwest and central Nebraska, which extended into portions of northern Kansas (north of Interstate 70) and portions of west-central and eastern South Dakota. The categorical percent area of abnormally dry conditions (D0) increased to 23%, Moderate drought (D1) decreased to 6%, Severe drought (D2) stayed at near 1%, and no Extreme drought (D3) or Exceptional drought (D4) was recorded. Prices below reflect the average price. There could be prices higher and lower than those published.
