This past week, demand remained light, and prices were mostly steady. Kansas did see a few more loads move this past week, but producers feel that is likely due to the holiday and cooler temperatures. The supply of hay available remains heavy and will probably stay that way until after the first of the year. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor for December 3rd, this week’s map indicated, only minor changes were made in the region, some minor improvements were made also in west-central Kansas, where precipitation has been above normal during the past 30–60-day period. The categorical percent area of abnormally dry conditions (D0) 40%, Moderate drought (D1) 29%, and no Severe drought (D2), Extreme drought (D3) or Exceptional drought (D4) was recorded.
