HERE IS YOUR KANSAS HAY MARKET REPORT FOR THE WEEK ENDING FEBRUARY 10th

Compared to the last report, demand remains light, and alfalfa prices remain soft. Grass hay continues to retain its value. There are lots of folks wanting to sell grinding alfalfa but there are still not many buyers. Most hay being moved is on previously contracted hay. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor for February 6th, High temperatures averaged about 8 to more than 20 degrees above normal. Precipitation of less than 0.25 inches fell across much of the Dakotas, eastern Nebraska, and southwest Kansas. The rest of the region recorded totals ranging from about 0.25 inches to just over 1 inch. The categorical percent area for abnormally dry conditions (D0) increased to near 36%, moderate drought (D1) decreased to near 29%, severe drought (D2) decreased to just over 3%, extreme drought (D3) decreased to less than .50%, and no exceptional drought (D4) was recorded. **Prices below reflect the average price. Southwest Kansas
Trade activity is slow. Dairy alfalfa and grinding alfalfa and ground and delivered alfalfa prices are steady. Alfalfa pellets $5.00-$10.00 lower. Alfalfa: Dairy, $1.35-$1.45/point RFV. Good, Stock or Dry Cow none reported. Fair/good grinding alfalfa, large rounds $175.00-$185.00, large square 3×4’s and 4×4’s $175.00-$185.00. Ground and delivered locally to feed lots and dairies $210.00-$220.00. Alfalfa pellets: Sun cured 15 pct protein $305.00-315.00, 17 pct protein $310.00-$320.00. Grass Hay: Bluestem small squares $8.00/bale, bluestem CRP large rounds $75.00/ton. Corn stalks: rounds and 3×4’s $90.00-$100.00. The week of 2/4-2/10, 4,891.5T of grinding alfalfa and 25T of dairy alfalfa was reported bought or sold. The average paid by feedlots on February 1 for alfalfa ground and delivered was $242.81, down $35.14 from the previous month, usage was 519T/day, down 7% from last month and total usage was 16,099T.

South Central Kansas
Trade activity is slow. Alfalfa pellet, dairy alfalfa, and ground and delivered alfalfa prices are steady. Grinding alfalfa steady to $5.00 lower. Alfalfa: horse, small squares $13.00/bale; Dairy $1.35-$1.45/point RFV. Good, Stock cow, $225.00-$235.00. Fair/good grinding alfalfa, large rounds $175.00–$185.00 delivered, 3×4 and 4×4’s $180.00-$190.00 delivered. Alfalfa ground and delivered $210.00-$220.00. Alfalfa pellets: Sun cured 15 pct protein $300.00-$310.00, 17 pct protein $305.00-$315.00, Dehydrated 17 pct protein: $400.00-$405.00. Grass hay: Bluestem, small squares $200.00, large rounds $100.00-$120.00, large square 3×4’s none reported. Brome, none reported. Sudan, large rounds $80.00-$90.00. The week of 2/4-2/10, 6,536.5T of grinding alfalfa and 146T of dairy alfalfa was reported bought or sold. The average paid by feedlots on February 1 for alfalfa ground and delivered was $216.90, down $0.36 from the previous month, usage was 214T/day, down 17% from last month and total usage was 6,638T.

Southeast Kansas

Northwest Kansas
Trade activity is slow. Dairy alfalfa, grinding alfalfa prices are steady. Alfalfa: horse, small squares $12.00/bale. Dairy, Premium/Supreme $1.40-$1.50/point RFV. Stock cow, good, $200.00-$230.00, Alfalfa Good 3×3’s $200.00, Premium 3×3’s $300.00, Fair/good grinding alfalfa: $180.00-$200.00.

North Central-Northeast Kansas
Trade activity is slow. Dairy alfalfa, grinding alfalfa, ground and delivered and grass hay prices are steady. Alfalfa: Dairy $1.40-$1.50/point RFV; Horse hay, premium small squares: none reported; Stock Cow 3×4’s none reported; Fair/good, grinding alfalfa, large rounds none reported, large square 3×4’s $195.00-$205.00. Alfalfa ground and delivered $240.00-$250.00, alfalfa/sudan mix ground and delivered $195.00-$205.00.
