HERE IS YOUR KANSAS HAY MARKET REPORT FOR THE WEEK ENDING JANUARY 20TH

Compared to the last report, demand remains low, and prices were steady on limited test. Hearing the same story from most producers, “no one is buying” and “have been getting a lot of calls from folks wanting to sell us hay”. Folks report that they are still burning through other feed stuffs instead of alfalfa. After thinking that the winter storms would spur some trades, we have not seen that materialize. However, we are still a long way away from first cutting and there’s a lot of winter in between. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor for January 16th, storminess in recent weeks and frigid temperatures this past week warrant no changes across much of the Central and Northern Plains. The categorical percent area for abnormally dry conditions (D0) remained at 25%, moderate drought (D1) remained at 35%, severe drought (D2) remained at 16%, extreme drought (D3) remained at .50%, and no exceptional drought (D4) was recorded. **Prices below reflect the average price. There could be prices higher and lower than those published. FULL REPORT
