Compared to the last report, demand low to moderate, and trade activity remained slow. Kansas producers are concentrating on finishing up harvest and not concentrating on hay delivers currently. There is a continued softening to the grinding hay market as feed yards seem to be using largely silage. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor for October 17th, northern parts of the state received precipitation a week ago but not enough to lead to large improvements. Precipitation did improve a small area of extreme drought (D3) in the central part of the state, in the counties of McPherson and Saline. Status quo, however, was maintained across much of the state with some degradation occurring along the eastern part of the state. The categorical percent area for abnormally dry conditions (D0) decreased to 15.5%, moderate drought (D1) decreased to 18%, severe drought (D2) increased to near 30%, extreme drought (D3) remained at 19%, and exceptional drought (D4) remained at 1%. **Prices below reflect the average price. There could be prices higher and lower than those published. FULL REPORT
